Attractions at Jayanti: Buxa fort: There is a fort on the top of the Buxa Hill is located at an altitude of 867 metres in the Buxa Tiger Reserve, Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal. The fort lies 7 km from the Buxa Road and was regarded as a refuge for the refugees during the unrest in Tibet. It is believed that this fort served as the point of contention between the Cooch Kings and the King of Bhutan. This fort was captured by the British. This place is also considered as the starting point for various trekking routes. Pokhri Lake: Pokhri Lake situated on the top of Pokhri Hill at a distance of about 4km. from Jayanti Village. To reach Pokhri Lake one has to trek the distance partly through forested hills and partly through previously used roads. The whole trek is quite a joyful experience and provides a scope to come so close to nature. Mahakal: Mahakal is stalactite cave of Mahakal is a popular pilgrimage destination of the Hindus. Located near Bhutan border this cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is a popular sightseeing destination of Jayanti. To reach Mahakal cave one has to trek through forested hills for nearly one and a half hour. The journey is not at all tough and tourists visiting Jayanti should definitely visit this cave temple. Apart from the pilgrimage point of view, the whole journey is a chance to enjoy the beauty of nature so closely. Getting There: Jayanti is about 25km from Alipurduar Junction and 15km from Rajabhatkhawa, which is the forest gate. The best way to reach there is by train though it is well connected by motorable roads as well. Siliguri is 153 kms away.
